Mysterycozy to hardboiled and everything in between
When Clara O’Hare lost the love of her life, she felt her own life was over. But when she moves into a new home to escape the memories, she discovers that the veil between life and death is very thin.
Desperate to find answers, she attends a seance in a remote country home surrounded by a colorful cast of strangers. But something sinister has decided to make itself known. It will be up to her and the dashing young medium, Wesley Lowenherz, to find out what the spirits of the manor are dying to tell them.
A Spirited Manor is a genre smorgasbord – a paranormal Victorian gothic cozy mystery with sweet romance.
And it works! It’s a quick read and I enjoyed every page of it. The mystery kept me on the edge of my seat, with twists and turns up until the very end. Clara manages to be a proper Victorian lady and a kickass heroine at the same time (always a plus) and the gothic atmosphere definitely gave me a chill or two. Absolutely worth a read!
Tequila Key is just like any other small town and I’m just like any other small town psychic. Scratch that. Tequila Key is a world onto itself and some people might think that I am one crayon short of the box.
And, if we’re being totally honest, Tequila Key is just like any other small town – if that town boasts a voodoo priestess and a few white witches for flavor. Turquoise blue water and the best margaritas this side of Mexico make it hard to leave.
I’m Althea Rose, co-owner of Luna Rose Potions & Tarot Shop, and I’ve just stumbled into a love triangle while trying to save my best friend from being accused of murder.
One Tequila is a well-written mystery full of small-town charm and occult flair. Quirky characters and gorgeous love interests abound – if it sounds up your alley, it probably is.
That said, I couldn’t finish it. I’m never a huge fan of love triangles, but it was Althea’s personality that made me put the book down. Her refusal to believe that a handsome dude (let alone two of them) could possibly be interested in her instead of her ever so much more gorgeous best friend… the lack of confidence coming from an otherwise capable lady kinda bugged me.
Personal taste, of course – your mileage may vary. If it sounds like your kind of cozy, give it a shot!
Private investigator, Jill Gooder, has been hired to find a serial killer because, as usual, the police can’t buy a clue. Jill, the not so proud owner of a crazy, one-eyed cat, probably can’t expect too much help from her PA/Secretary, Mrs V, who spends all day knitting.
And just in case all of that wasn’t bad enough, Jill’s just about to discover she’s a witch.
This book is a beautiful beginning to the Witch P.I. Mysteries series. lf the other 22 books are as binge-able as this one… hoo boy. There goes your productivity.
Witch Is When It All Began is quick, funny, and well-crafted – the characters are lovely, the pacing is excellent, and the mystery kept me on my toes. Add a judicious spoonful of magic and a really ugly cat… I don’t see a downside. Get it before it’s gone!
