Review Policy

TL;DR: It breaks my heart, but at this time I am no longer accepting book submissions, since I’m turning my focus to promoting the cream of the crop of Amazon Kindle freebies. That said, if you have a freebie available or coming up soon, please give me a holler and point me in the right direction! I’d love to take a look. You can find me at thebookishcreature {at} gmail {dot} com.

And now, if you’re interested, the ramble.

Look, I love indie. I love being able to support hardworking authors in their attempts to skirt around The Great Gatekeepers of Publishing and grace the world with the new, the exciting, the never-before-seen.

But the fact is that I’m not doing that very well.

I mean, sure, I’m opinionated, I read fast, and I write coherently, if nothing else. But for months I’ve been mulling over the fact that the vast majority of Bookish Creature’s traffic is authors – not readers. And it makes sense. I’m over here spitting out reviews for books of all genres, all age groups, and all lengths, with nothing to unite them but the fact that they’re independently published and they’ve made their way into my inbox. I’m not giving fellow bookworms a viewpoint worth following. And if I’m not providing value to readers, I can’t provide value to the authors that are trying to get their attention.

Don’t get me wrong. There is no way in hell that I’m giving up on supporting the indie community – I’ll just be rejiggering and rebalancing until I can do so in a way that benefits everyone involved.

All of which is to say that Bookish Creature is going to take a bit of a left turn (and hopefully a right turn). Here’s the plan:

From here on out, I’ll be focusing on Kindle freebies, tearing apart the haystacks to find those shiny little needles – the fantastic books that lay buried among the… less-than-fantastic. I won’t be accepting book submissions for the time being, but my tip line is wide open. If you’ve got a freebie that you want to promote, yell at me about it! I’d love to take a look.

Get ready for Bookish Creature 2: Electric Boogaloo. I can’t wait to see where we end up.
